the cubesat helios project
We are a team of secondary school students developing a CubeSat — a compact satellite designed to orbit the Earth and collect real-world environmental data from space. Our mission is to monitor temperature patterns across major cities, helping to better understand the growing impact of extreme heat as a result of climate change, we aim to identify urban heat hotspots and contribute to practical solutions.
To us, its not just a sattelite, we want to show that meaningful scientific work and real-world impact can begin even at any level with any means.
Who we are
We are a student-led team of aspiring engineers, scientists, and innovators working to design, build, and launch a CubeSat into orbit, to tackle a challenge typically reserved for industry professionals.
With every stage of the mission from cradle to grave conceived entirely by students, we are showing the world that the world we inherit must be shaped by us.

FOUNDER
Richard is a Sutton Grammar School student and our founder and CubeSat’s brainchild, leading the project from a bold idea to a fully realised satellite into orbit, he has brought together a team, secured momentum for the project, and continues to guide its strategic vision and development.

ENGINEERING TEAM
Focused, approachable, and driven by results, Aakarsh has been instrumental in engineering a sattelite capable of orbit and communications.
Our Story
Our journey began with participation in the UK and European CanSat competition, where we became the first team from our school to reach the National Finals. That experience opened our eyes to the possibilities of space technology and what could be achieved with the right ambition and teamwork.
We then moved to CubeSats, satellites capable of carrying out real missions in orbit. What started as an ambitious concept gradually became a serious project, driven by months of planning, learning, and determination.
Balancing this alongside school commitments, including A Levels, has not been easy. But through persistence and a clear vision, we have built the foundations of a mission that aims to go far beyond that classroom in which we started.
